In February 2015, the United Kingdom took over from Turkey as the top contributor to flights in the European network, adding 160 extra daily flights, reports Eurocontrol. Spain, Belgium/Luxembourg, Portugal and Greece made up the rest of the top five. IATA reports that European scheduled passenger traffic increased by 4.9% in January 2015, compared with the same month a year before. ACI says that overall passenger counts were up by 4.8% in January 2015, compared with January 2014 and overall aircraft movements increased by 1.1%.
The FAA expects passenger growth to average 2% per year in the United States, with one billion passengers in 2029. In 2014, 756 million passengers flew on US airlines, an increase of 2.3% compared with 2013.
