Bristow Helicopter crash: AIB identifies faulty Control Pushrod as possible cause

Faulty Control Pushrod may have accounted for the crash into Lagos lagoon of a Kikorsky S-76C+ Helicopter marked 5N-BGD on August 12, 2015 that killed six of the twelve souls onboard. The ill-fated Helicopter was operated by Bristow Helicopters, Nigeria. According to preliminary report released in Lagos on Tuesday by Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB), the crashed   Helicopter had its’’Control Pushrod tube separated from Control rod end with the bearing and the Jamnut’’. The report released by the Commissioner of AIB, Dr. Felix Abali further stated that ’’the Jamnut was loose and was not seating against the control rod’’. The Helicopter manufactured in 2003, the AIB report said had ‘’no records of any deferred defects in the tech log’’. It was reported that ‘’preliminary flight recorder data indicated that at 1000 ft and 120 kts,the helicopter sudden pitch up, and left roll with varying attitude of yaw, roll and pitch for 12 seconds until it impacted water at about 1531

Boeing to Build 747 Fuselage Panels at Macon, Georgia Facility

Facility will employ up to 200 by 2018  Boeing has announced that  Boeing  747 fuselage panels will be built at its Macon, Georgia facility beginning in 2018. Boeing will take over the work from Triumph Aerostructures – Vought Aircraft Division, a wholly owned subsidiary of Triumph Group, Inc., with the Macon site providing assembled fuselage panels to Boeing's 747 final assembly line in Everett, Washington. Boeing and Triumph Aerostructures have worked together to ensure a smooth transition for the 747 supply chain. "Boeing's choice to manufacture these vital pieces of equipment at their Macon-Bibb County facility is further indication that Georgia is home to a highly-skilled workforce and a world-class infrastructure," said Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal. NCAA grounds two foreign registered jets over illegal entry and operations

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has grounded two foreign registered aircraft with immediate effect. The aircraft are Bombardier 700-100 with registration marks G-RBEN Global express S/N 9083 operated by Gama Aviation, United (UK) Limited and Embraer 135 J with registration marks XA-MHA. The operator of G-RBEN  aircraft were found operating in Nigeria’s airspace with falsified flight clearance information and conducting illegal domestic flight operations in Nigeria. Other infractions are conducting illegal commercial revenue flight operations contrary to conditions contained in Nig. Civil Aviation Regulations (NCARs) Part 10 and security violations. Preliminary investigations,according to a statement by Sam Adurogboye,the Acting General Manager,Public Relations, revealed that the Embraer 135BJ registration marks XA-MHA was reported to have landed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, from London, Farnborough without any flight clearance on the 10 th

Shake up in NCAA

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority [NCAA]  has carried out some levels of restructuring  within the Agency. This is done with a view to enhance efficiency in service delivery and safe flight operations in and out of the nation airspace. The exercise involved the termination forthwith of the contract appointments of  eight[8] officers whose contract were to run consecutively for  four [4] years contrary to the provision  of the rules  of tenure on contract appointment. Consequently,  competent and skilled officers from the affected Directorates /Departments  have accordingly been re- assigned to fill the affected positions. Also terminated were the appointments  of three [3] Special Assistants  to the erstwhile Honourable  Minster  of Aviation  who  were domiciled with NCAA. Their appointment ceased with the end of the tenure of the  Honourable  Minister who engaged their services as stipulated by the rules. Arik Air owner demands forensic audit of aviation ministry

President Muhammadu Buhari has been urged to carry a comprehensive forensic audit of the aviation sector, especially the Ministry of Aviation in view of the high level of corruption among officials. The advise was  given by the Chairman of Arik Air, Sir Johnson Arumemi-Ikhide while speaking at the 2015 Breakfast Meeting of stakeholders organised by members of the Aviation Round Table (ART), a non-governmental body that promote safety and professionalism in the industry. He noted that civil servants in the Ministry of Aviation are responsible for lack of growth of Nigerian registered airlines by putting many clogs in the wheel of progress of the airline and favouring foreign airlines in the allocation of lucrative routes while denying Nigerian carriers same.
