AVIATION ROUND TABLE INTERACTIVE FORUM ON DOMESTIC AIRLINES   COMMUNIQUE   The Aviation Round Table, today 30 th September, 2014 held an interactive forum on the domestic airlines at the Golfview Hotel and Suites, GRA, Ikeja. The interactive session discussed the challenges facing the local carriers and arrived at the followings;   1.     High net-worth Entrepreneurs should be encouraged to invest in the industry to facilitate the efficient funding and management of local airlines.   2.     A regulatory fleet consolidation process should be initiated by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) with the backing of the National Assembly as a way of strengthening the local operators.   3.     That in view of the high cost of aircraft, all service providers to the airlines (public and private) should maintain a comprehensive insurance portfolio to mitigate damages to airlines’ equipment as provided for in Part 18 of the NigCARs 2012.   4.     The insurance p

air traffic control center shutdown at Chicago airports

Chicago airports grappling with a 'very fluid' situation in wake of air traffic control center shutdown Lewis Lazare Reporter- Chicago Business Journal               On what would otherwise have been a near perfect day for flying in the Chicago area, the city's two principal airports — O'Hare and Midway — were struggling to deal with hundreds and hundreds of canceled flights and tens of thousands of stranded passengers. The chaos at both Chicago airports was caused by an early morning fire reported at a key Federal Aviation Administration regional air traffic control facility in west suburban Aurora. After firemen reached the scene, the facility was shut down and air traffic controllers evacuated, which caused a shutdown of operations at both Midway and O'Hare airports.. By noon, according to multiple news reports, a few flights were beginning to take off and land at O'Hare. But a spokesman for Chicago-based United Airlines , which

13 years after 9/11, one sad conclusion: The terrorists won Share on Google + Share on Facebook Share on LinkedIn Share on Twitter Email this article         Print BY JOE BRANCATELLI ,Chicago Business Journal Thirteen years to the day after the 2001 terrorism attacks downed four passenger aircraft and slaughtered nearly 3,000 people, it is hard not to conclude that the terrorists have won. And that's not just because another president went on television last night to give another speech about another crisis that requires America to fight another amorphous terrorist group that poses another existential threat to our way of life. We've lost. You and me, business travelers everywhere and civilized human beings from Maine to California, from London to Timbuktu, from northwest China to the Middle East to Southeast Asia. The goal of a terrorist is to make us fear living our everyday lives. And live in fear we do — if not fear of the terrorists themselves, th

Chicago's O'Hare Airport has got 'em again — hungry llamas and a lot more

By Lewis Lazare   Reporter- Chicago Business Journal : Enlarge Photo Could this become O'Hare Airport's top attraction in the weeks ahead?                  Arriving and departing passengers at Chicago's O'Hare Airport should direct their gaze as they take off and land in the weeks ahead to the grassy areas surrounding major runways. There you quite possibly could see llamas and a whole herd of other animals that have returned to the airport for another season of vegetation grazing. Yes, a menagerie of 37 animals, including goats, sheep and burros, in addition to the llamas, are now in place doing their grass-eating thing on some 120 acres of land adjacent to — but fenced off from — airport runways. And according to the Chicago Department of Aviation, even more animals are slated to arrive in coming weeks. All the anima

Tailwind landing proves fatal

September 10, 2014   by   Meg Godlew Aircraft: RV-7A. Injuries: 1 Fatal. Location: Laramie, Wyo. Aircraft damage: Destroyed. What reportedly happened: The pilot approached the non-towered airport for landing. The airport had two runways, 21/03 and 30/15. The winds at the time of the accident were reported to be 350° at 14 knots with gusts to 24 knots. The pilot entered a left downwind for runway 21. A witness reported seeing the airplane while on final approach just east of the airport about 300 to 400 feet AGL, but when the airplane was on short final the wings began to rock. When the plane was about 100 to 150 feet AGL, its left wing dipped a little, followed by the right wing dropping very fast, which was then followed by a spin to the right and  impact with terrain. The airplane caught fire. Investigators determined that the pilot landed with a significant tailwind, and his decision to attempt a downwind landing in gusting wind conditions likely resulted in his loss

NAMA SET TO INSTALL CONTROLLER PILOT DATA LINK COMMUNICATION

he Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) in conjunction with SITA , is deploying Controller Pilot Data Link Communication(CPDLC) facilities at Lagos and Kano Control Centres to enhance long range data communication between  Air Traffic   Controllers and the Pilots. Ibrahim Abdulsalam, would assist in "the decongestion of busy ATC frequencies at Lagos and Kano Area Control Centres, thereby promoting safe and efficient flow of traffic  within the nation's airspace. In addition ,the deployment of CPDLC would reduce ATC and Pilot workloads within the airspace." The installation of CPDLC ,NAMA boss explained would also enhance Air Traffic Management (ATM) capacity while ensuring accuracy of data exchanged between ATC Pilots of aircraft in flight.  In a bid to boost the nation’s preparedness in emergency responses, the Nigerian airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has concluded pl
