Nigeria regains US CAT 1 status

Nigeria has regained US Cat 1 safety status, second in four years.

The acting Director General of NCAA, Engineer Benedict Adeyileka  confirmed on Friday  at a  press conference held at the Aviation House annex,MMIA, Ikeja.
The  NCAA boss declared  :" I want to place on record the active support, both financial and moral, rendered towards the retention of this Category 1 by all the agencies under the Federal Ministry of Aviation."
" With the retention of this Category 1, we in NCAA believe that there is a level playing for all shades of investors to tap into the corresponding and emerging business opportunities that will provide a value chain for the industry".
According to him, the aviation industry in Nigeria has entered into a phase where the preceding growth should enter a crescendo with the attendant upswing in business.
Engineer Adeyileka remarked:" Our industry has once again received a vote of confidence and reiteration of global recognition which Nigeria had earlier received in August,2010."
He therefore assured industry stakeholders that the re-certification would take MMIA,Lagos a step closer to the attainment of the much vaunted regional hub status and in spite of this achievement, NCAA would not rest on its oars but has " prepared itself for the subsequent challenges of regulation in this regime of increased volume of passengers and other services in the industry".
To this end, Adeyileka assured that the Authority would continue to train and retrain its staff so as to sustain the professionalism that already existed in NCAA while making sure that air travel is safe and secure at all times for passengers.
He concluded:" Our zero tolerance stance on any form of violation will be strongly sustained".

Foreign firms are attracted to the U.S. aerospace market because it is the largest in the world and has a skilled and hospitable workforce, extensive distribution systems, diverse offerings, and strong support at the local and national level for policy and promotion.  According to a recent study by the U.S. Department of Commerce, aerospace exports directly and indirectly support more jobs than the export of any other commodity.  The U.S. aerospace industry directly employs about 500,000 workers in scientific and technical jobs across the nation and supports more than 700,000 jobs in related fields.  Investment in the U.S. aerospace industry is facilitated by a large pool of...
