IATA Welcomes US Dept. of Transportation Tentative Approval of Resolution 787

  0 in Share     Geneva - The International Air Transport Association (IATA) welcomed the decision by the United States Department of Transportation (DOT) to tentatively approve Resolution 787. The Resolution is the foundation document for the New Distribution Capability (NDC), a travel industry-supported program launched by IATA for the development and market adoption of a new, XML-based data transmission standard. “This is excellent news for air travelers, airlines , intermediaries, and for competition,” said Tony Tyler, IATA Director General and CEO. A team of nine British Airways’ apprentices, based at Heathrow, has been selected as a finalist of the Brathay Apprentice Challenge 2014. This prestigious nationwide award recognises, among other attributes, achievement in team building and communication, both essential skills for those starting out in their careers. British_AirwaysAfter three months of competition between more than 100 teams of apprentices from around the country, eight teams were selected as finalists for impressing the judges with their energy, enthusiasm and commitment. The British Airways team was commended for its voluntary work at Orione Care, a home for older people in Kingston, and organising a community project at the Willow Tree Centre in Harefield which involved clearing land and planting trees following a storm.  The team also attended several careers fairs and spoke at schools in order to promote the value of apprenticeships and the benefits of the British Airways scheme to school leavers.                              NAMA MD RESTATES COMMITMENT TO AIM IMPLEMENTATION   The Managing Director, Engr. Ibrahim Abdulsalam has affirmed that Aeronautical Information Services Automation remains the focal point of his administration, given the safet y implication of the project to air navigation in Nigeria. Abdulsalam who was represented by the Director of Operations, Mr John Onyegiri, at the World AIS Day celebration on Thursday at Ibis Hotel, Ikeja disclosed that in spite of initial challenges, the AIS Automation project is back on course with full deployment of VSAT facilities while systems are expected to be shipped to Nigeria for installation at 11 designated centres for the 1 st phase by October, 2014.     DAKAR HOSTS WORKSHOP ON MITIGATION OF LOSS OF OPERATIONAL MESSAGES A team of four NAMA staff, led by the Director of Operations, Mr John Onyegiri, represented Nigeria at a three-day workshop held between 12 th and 14th May, 2014. The event was organized and hosted by ICAO West and Central Africa. Presided over by Mr. Onyegiri, the objective of the workshop was to discuss the safety and economic implication of missing flight plans, NOTAMs and operational meteorological messages. The workshop which attracted presentations from ICAO and ASECNA representatives, examined in detail the operational and human factor dimensions to missing flight plans. Azman Air is Nigeria's new domestic cxarrier.

...receives AOC from NCAA  ... commences flights  this Thursday    Azman Air Services Limited (Azman Air)  in the latest domestic carrier in Nigeria as is granted Air Operator Certificate (AOC) by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).   With the licence, Azman, according to the regulatory authority , has met the minimum safety requirement and its airplanes considered safe enough to fly within Nigerian airspace by the regulator.   Presenting the certificate to the President of Azman Air, Alhaji Abdumunaf Yunusa, the NCAA acting Director General, Engr. Boeing Delivers 75th 747 to Lufthansa

 Boeing and Lufthansa celebrated the delivery of the German airline's 75 th 747 on Wednesday. "Lufthansa is proud to share this milestone with Boeing," said Nico Buchholz , executive vice president, Lufthansa Group Fleet Management. "The 747 is an amazing airplane and will continue to delight our passengers for many years to come, and provide them with the ultimate in comfort and efficiency." Lufthansa is the launch customer for the 747-8 Intercontinental jetliner and took delivery of the first one in April 2012 . The airplane delivered Wednesday is Lufthansa's 13 th 747-8 Intercontinental. The airline currently flies the 747 to 22 destinations in 10 countries. Over the years, Lufthansa has ordered a total of 81 747s. Lufthansa's first 747 – a 747-100 – was delivered in 1970.     NAMA PARLEYS NCAT ON EFFECTIVE TRAINING NAMA ON Wednesday played host to the top management team of the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria, in a crucial meeting that bordered on streamlining the content and procedure of training as well as review of course duration. An understanding was struck between the two agencies for NCAT to be informed of any system change or upgrade so as to reflect in training; NCAT would also be a part of the installation process of NAMA equipment so that trainees could easily assimilate; NAMA as part of the MOU, agreed to send trainees and instructors with live experience to complement training in Zaria.    Earlier, the NCAT team led by Capt.                               The airline at the center of controversy The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority [NCAA] has expressed grave concerns over the intermittent encroachment of the Consumer Protection Council (CPC) into matters within NCAA's regulatory purview. On Tuesday, 29th April 2014, the media was awash with what was referred to as Order of Council from CPC, under which far reaching sanctions were purportedly meted out to an air carrier, Aero Contractors Company of Nigeria Limited. According to CPC, its action was pursuant to several publications in some National Dailies and a consumer complaint it received. NAMA completes installation of solar powered airfield lighting at MMIA and Port Harcourt airports

Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has completed the installation of solar powered Airfield lighting system at Lagos and Port Harcourt international airports. The installed lighting system is a product of Avlite Systems Pty Ltd., Australia, one of the world’s recognized solar LED airfield system manufacturers.   The lighting system certified by ICAO and FAA is currently in use at various airports across the globe, particularly in Africa, Caribbean, Europe and South America. With the installation at these two major airports, the tempo of night/low visibility operations is expected to increase and reduce operational cost to the airlines through less taxiing and long wait for take- offs  and landing. NAMA is also expected to benefit in areas of low maintenance and running cost as power generation and cabling are totally eliminated.
