NAMA MD RESTATES COMMITMENT TO AIM IMPLEMENTATION

 

The Managing Director, Engr. Ibrahim Abdulsalam has affirmed that Aeronautical Information Services Automation remains the focal point of his administration, given the safety implication of the project to air navigation in Nigeria. Engr. Abdulsalam who was represented by the Director of Operations, Mr John Onyegiri, at the World AIS Day celebration on Thursday at Ibis Hotel, Ikeja disclosed that in spite of initial challenges, the AIS Automation project is back on course with full deployment of VSAT facilities while systems are expected to be shipped to Nigeria for installation at 11 designated centres for the 1st phase by October, 2014. The NAMA boss also appreciated the support and cooperation of AISAN leadership and its professionals in the successful implementation of the ICAO Flight Plan 2012 and the on-going AIS Automation project. Earlier in his address, the National President of AISAN, Mr Babatunde Shittu, solicited management support in the area of training of AIS personnel to cope with the challenges of the new technology. 

 

FMT, FAAN, NCAA, NAMA AND AIB CO-OPERATIVE MULTI-PURPOSE

SOCIETY ELECTION: NAMA’S SOTIN EMERGES 1ST VICE PRESIDENT

The Federal Ministries of Transport/Aviation, FAAN, NCAA, NAMA and AIB elections held on Friday have thrown up Mr Babatunde Sotin, the SA Special Duties to MD/CE as 1st Vice President and Mathias Iseseghe of Commercial Department as Financial Secretary. FAAN’s Prince Adeyemi Joel was elected National President while Rotarian Princess Rita David-Osuagwu, also of FAAN became the 4th Vice President. Other elected members of executive include Mrs Kemi Balogun (Min. of Aviation) 2nd VP, Ngozi Okwuoke (NIWA) PRO, Ori Bassey (AIB) Treasurer, Kasumu Jinad (NCAA) Gen. Secretary and Olaposi Akinola (NCAA) 3rd VP. According to outgoing President of the society, Engr. Stanley Da’Silva, the peaceful conduct of elections indicated the strict adherence of candidates to decorum and election guidelines.

 

ATSSSAN HOLDS NEC MEETING

The Air Traffic Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN) has risen from its 2014 National Executive Council Meeting with a call on relevant authorities to shelve the proposed merger of aviation agencies as it negates the letters and spirits of the International Civil Aviation (ICAO) Conventions and Protocols. In an address by its National President, Mr Benjamin Okewu at the event which held at Equity Resort Hotel, Ijebu Ode, Ogun State between 22nd and 25th May, 2014, the union also called on the aviation industry to respect the rights of employees to join and belong to union. In his remarks on the occasion, the Managing Director, Engr. Ibrahim Abdulsalam, who was represented by the Director of Operations, Mr John Onyegiri, stated that his administration is committed to improving workers welfare as it has entered into agreements with organized labour within the agency on various staff matters including modalities for full implementation of outstanding claims and emoluments.

Air Traffic Controllers Suspend Warning Strike...In Crucial Meeting With NAMA Management

Normalcy has returned to the nation's airspace as  Air Traffic Controllers stepped down it warning strike which informed spacing of traffic flow by 20 minutes at four major airports in Lagos,Abuja, Portharcourt and Kano. The  suspension,according to a statement signed by the Managing Director of the Agency , Capt. Fola Akinkuotu is to allow " for a follow-up meeting between NAMA management, Director General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and the Association, scheduled to hold later today".  Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) reassured airspace users and the general public that the Nigerian airspace remains safe for seamless and economic air travel.  The agency expressed regret over streaks of  inconveniences caused earlier today by the warning strike. S

ABUJA RUNWAY AND ITS MANY TROUBLES

Runway 022, Abuja remains a night mare for the foreign airlines that frequently complaints about the rutted runway surface which has caused structural damage to under carriage of most aircraft on landing. The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) of recent, has been inundated with series of report from airlines like KLM, Emirates, British Airways and Ethiopian Airlines as well as some domestic carriers on the terrible nature of the runway. The poor state of the runway, if not rectified, an industry expert says may result in dangerous landing, excessive vibration, loss of control of aircraft and runway incursion on the useable portion. A committee with membership drawn from NAMA, FAAN and NCAA had come out with a suggestion of phasing the maintenance of the runway as total closure will not be possible because of political consideration.
