DAKAR HOSTS WORKSHOP ON MITIGATION OF LOSS OF OPERATIONAL MESSAGES

A team of four NAMA staff, led by the Director of Operations, Mr John Onyegiri, represented Nigeria at a three-day workshop held between 12th and 14th May, 2014. The event was organized and hosted by ICAO West and Central Africa. Presided over by Mr. Onyegiri, the objective of the workshop was to discuss the safety and economic implication of missing flight plans, NOTAMs and operational meteorological messages. The workshop which attracted presentations from ICAO and ASECNA representatives, examined in detail the operational and human factor dimensions to missing flight plans. Recommendations that would drastically reduce or eliminate the above problems and lead to better and efficient coordination were made at the end of the day.

 

FMT, FAAN, NCAA, NAMA AND AIB CO-OPERATIVE MULTI-PURPOSE

 SOCIETY RELEASES ELECTION TIMETABLE

The Federal Ministries of Transport/Aviation, FAAN, NCAA, NAMA and AIB has released a five-day election calendar spanning 21st to 27th May, 2014, for election into various positions at its secretariat. NAMA sector election is billed for Friday, the 23rd of May, 2014. Among other contestants, NAMA’s BABATUDE SOTIN is vying for the post of 1st Vice President of the society. Mr Sotin in a chat with Monday Memo enjoined members to troop out en-masse and perform their civic duty.

MANAGEMENT WARNS AGAINST INDISCRIMINATE MAILING

Management has frowned at the rate at which internal and external correspondences are routed to the agency in breach of protocol and without following proper communication channels. A recent circular signed by the Director of Human Resources, Dr.Uwem Akangson warned that henceforth, all letters from third party institutions meant for the attention of the Managing Director must be received and endorsed at the MD/CE’s office and then handed down to the relevant directorate /department. Similarly, all memos and letters from out stations must no longer be addressed directly to the MD/CE but to the Director/directorate handling the issues in question. Finally, all internal correspondences must pass through the Director/directorate/ GM in charge for onward transmission to the Managing Director.

 

AERONAUTICAL INFORMATION SERVICES ASSOCIATION MARKS WORLD AIS DAY

The Aeronautical Information Services Association of Nigeria has lined up a series of activities leading to the celebration of World AIS Day. The programme of events which started with a press conference held at NAMA headquarters in Lagos on the 7th of May, will culminate with the World AIS Day Celebration slated for Thursday, the 22nd of May, 2014 at Ibis Hotel, Ikeja Lagos, with the theme: Aim Implementation in Nigeria. President of the association, Mr Babatunde Shittu in a press briefing explained that the event was shifted from 15th to 22nd May, 2014, to enable executive members attend global proceedings in Dubai, UAE. Dignitaries expected at the event include the Supervising Minister of Aviation, Mr. Samuel Ortom and Lagos State Governor, Mr Babatunde  Fashola.

U.S. Aerospace Industry generates 1.2 million jobs...nets $118.5 billion export sales

  In 2012, the U.S. aerospace industry contributed $118.5 billion in export sales to the U.S. economy.  The industry’s positive trade balance of $70.5 billion is the largest trade surplus of any manufacturing industry and came from exporting 64.3 percent of all aerospace production. ARAP STEERING COMMITTEE SUBMITS REPORT ...AS CHIDOKA LAUDS NAMA FOR CREATION OF PMO _THE steering committee of the Aviation Revenue Automation Project (ARAP), inaugurated for the purpose of driving the full automation of all activities in the aviation agencies on Monday submitted its report to the Honourable Minister, Chief Osita Chidoka in Lagos. Among the recommendations of the committee was the need to drive commitment and enforcement to ensure strict compliance by all stakeholders while chief executives of all agencies should be held responsible to ensure that all revenue lines are captured under ARAP platform; also that all agencies should be encouraged to establish the Project Management Office (PMO) as is the case with NAMA.
