FSF recognizes Aviation Week and Space Technology. journalists with Brownlow Award

Paris, France, June 15, 2015 - The Flight Safety Foundation (FSF) announced today that this year's Cecil A. Brownlow Publication Award was given to two Aviation Week and Space Technology journalists for a special report titled "New Approaches to Aviation Safety" at the annual Aerospace Media Awards Dinner in Paris, France. The winners are John Croft, senior editor for avionics and safety, and Sean Broderick, senior managing editor for MRO. The award recognizes their outstanding achievement in the advancement of aviation safety through timely, well-researched and accurate reporting on the most pressing operational safety challenges facing the international commercial air transportation industry. In a comprehensive package of articles included in a special report, the authors explored the tools, procedures and training strategies that have been deployed, or are in development, to mitigate the risks of controlled flight into terrain, loss of control-in-flight and runway excursions, the three most common accident types. The articles expertly summarized the current state of industry knowledge on the subject matter, and offered insightful analysis of where the industry is headed and how it plans to get there.   "It is our privilege to recognize the outstanding work that John and Sean produced with this special report," stated Jon L. The Cecil A. Brownlow Publication Award is given annually by the Flight Safety Foundation and sponsor IHS to recognize significant contributions by journalists to aviation safety awareness. The award is named for Cecil Brownlow, a veteran newspaper, wire service and magazine journalist, who was director of publications at the Flight Safety Foundation in the 1980s. FSF Board Member, Yannick Malinge, senior vice president, chief product safety officer for Airbus, presented the award on behalf of FSF.
