NAMA PLEDGES COOPERATION AS CAPSCA EMBARKS ON ASSISTANCE VISIT TO NIGERIA

 Engr. Abdulsalam who made this remark at the opening ceremony of the Collaborative Arrangement for the Prevention and Management of Public Health Events in Civil Aviation (CAPSCA) Assistance Visit to Nigeria held at the NCAA Annex, MMIA Ikeja,Lagos noted that since Air Traffic Controllers are central in the procedures for notification of medical emergencies on board aircraft, NAMA would continue to give unflinching support to such collaborative efforts geared towards the prevention and management of public health emergencies. 



In a bid to improve states preparedness, planning and responses to public health events, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), through CAPSCA has beenvisiting various regions of the world to assess preparedness of aviation sectors in public health events and offering training and assistance visits to airports, in line with the WHO as contained in the International Health Regulations (2005). 

Also speaking, the Director General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Capt. Muhtar Usman expressed confidence that the assistance visit by CAPSCA would entrench a positive culture in the aviation sector towards preventing the spread of communicable diseases through air travel. The two-day event holding between the 22nd and 23rd of June 2015 would involve the presentation of papers by the CAPSCA team as well as resource persons drawn from the Ministry of Health and the aviation sector including NAMA’s Director of Operations, Mr UzomaFyneboy.

NAMA, AFISNET STRIVE TO ENHANCE NETWORK PROVISION


IN an effort to ensure maximum availability and integrity of network provision in line with ICAO standards, the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) last week hosted the Inception Meeting of the Africa Indian Ocean Region Satellite Network (AFISNET) Evaluation and Re-engineering Audit at Ibis Hotel, Lagos.

 The meeting which provided a platform for all stakeholders in the AFISNET group to interact and exchange ideas on network performance and improvement also sought toappraise available network infrastructureidentify gaps and make recommendations in line with modern trends. 

NAMA as an ANSP enjoys the satellite platform of AFISNET for the provision of Air Traffic Services (voice coordination with adjacent FIRs), AFTN and Extended Range VHF coverage. In his remarks at the occasion, the Director of Safety Electronics and Engineering Services, Engr. Emma Anasi who represented the Managing Director, Engr. Ibrahim Abdulsalam, harped on the need for the network to be critically ex-rayed to explore new frontiers in satellite communication schemes in order to harness the advantage of greater efficiency and cost effectiveness by adopting new technical solutions for improvement of network. 

The AFISNET group comprising NAMA (Nigeria), GCAA (Ghana) ASECNA (Francophone countries) and Roberts FIR (Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia etcwas established for the purpose of sharing common satellite infrastructure to ensure seamless ATC operations within the West African sub-region.

U.S. Aerospace Industry generates 1.2 million jobs...nets $118.5 billion export sales

  In 2012, the U.S. aerospace industry contributed $118.5 billion in export sales to the U.S. economy.  The industry’s positive trade balance of $70.5 billion is the largest trade surplus of any manufacturing industry and came from exporting 64.3 percent of all aerospace production. ARAP STEERING COMMITTEE SUBMITS REPORT ...AS CHIDOKA LAUDS NAMA FOR CREATION OF PMO _THE steering committee of the Aviation Revenue Automation Project (ARAP), inaugurated for the purpose of driving the full automation of all activities in the aviation agencies on Monday submitted its report to the Honourable Minister, Chief Osita Chidoka in Lagos. Among the recommendations of the committee was the need to drive commitment and enforcement to ensure strict compliance by all stakeholders while chief executives of all agencies should be held responsible to ensure that all revenue lines are captured under ARAP platform; also that all agencies should be encouraged to establish the Project Management Office (PMO) as is the case with NAMA.
