Red Card For Nigeria Air Over AOC

Attempt by the Management of controversial Nigeria Air to move a step further in processing the airline's Air Operator Certificate( AOC),has been halted by the regulatory Agency - Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).

The airline management had requested to  proceed to the Phase two of AOC,but

failed to attach the relevant documents with Formal Application Form.

NCAA declined the request in a letter entitled, “Re: Request to Proceed to Phase Two of AOC Certification”  dated June 2,2023 with reference number NCAA/DOLTS//GEEN/Vol. III/16123.

Capt. O.O Lawani who endorsed the letter on behalf of the Director General,CAA and addressed to the Managing Director  of Nigeria Air,also reminded that" Post Holders letters of commitment to Nigeria Air has tenure of three months and as such expire now".

The letter explained further:

“Quite contrary to our earlier letter of 16th May 2023 which enumerated the documents to be submitted with Formal Application FormOPS 002, your letter of request to proceed to phase two has no inclusion of a Formal Application Form the necessary documents referenced  in the Formal Application Form.

Hence, the Certification process cannot progress to Phase Two without these required documents".

This latest development, supported claims by Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) that Nigeria Air had no AOC to flag off flight operations last Friday ,just as it applauded Capt. Musa Nuhu, the DG and his team for not bowing to intimidating external pressure.

Nigeria Air would need a long period of time to scale the mandatory five phases of process to acquire the AOC before it could technically operate in the country.

In 2012, the U.S. aerospace industry contributed $118.5 billion in export sales to the U.S. economy.  The industry’s positive trade balance of $70.5 billion is the largest trade surplus of any manufacturing industry and came from exporting 64.3 percent of all aerospace production. Foreign firms are attracted to the U.S. aerospace market because it is the largest in the world and has a skilled and hospitable workforce, extensive distribution systems, diverse offerings, and strong support at the local and national level for policy and promotion.  According to a recent study by the U.S. Department of Commerce, aerospace exports directly and indirectly support more jobs than the export of any other commodity.  The U.S. aerospace industry directly employs about 500,000 workers in scientific and technical jobs across the nation and supports more than 700,000 jobs in related fields.  Investment in the U.S. aerospace industry is facilitated by a large pool of...
