NAHCO sacks Staff

NAHCO SACKS 20 WORKERS

Two weeks after the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) sacked over 187 workers, the Nigeria Aviation Handling Company Plc (NAHCO) has also sacked no fewer than 20 of its top management staff under on-going ‘restructuring’ exercise. There are indications that more workers would be axed before the end of the year.
Some of the affected persons included Assistant General Managers, General Managers and others while the affected departments included Human Resources, Corporate Communications, Risks Management departments and the office of the Managing Director.
The gale of retrenchment it would be recalled started in October with the removal of the Managing Director, Mr. Kayode Oluwasegun-Ojo by the Board of Directors and the immediate announcement of a replacement for him.
NAHCO had claimed then that the removal of Oluwasegun-Ojo was in line with the company’s succession plan and good corporate principles.
The board then announced Mr. Norbert Bielderman as the Acting Managing Director effective from October 20, 2014.
Many who are not affected told our reporter that they are sleeping with one eye closed, claiming that they are unsure of their future.
Some of the workers who spoke to Nigeriatravelsmart.com said all may not be well with the company after all, saying that rather than sack workers, the ground handling company needed to employ more staff to beef up its operations.
The source said, “In fact, no one is sure of his or her tomorrow in NAHCO at the moment. The rate at which people are fired and hired is unprecedented in the
company.”
“In the last one year, over 70 personnel have either been fired by the board of directors or resigned from the company. The truth is that we actually need more hands to beef up our operations and not sack of competent personnel,” said the source.
It would be recalled that NAHCO had in last quarter of 2013 sacked about 30 workers from its payroll over the same restructuring exercise claim.
NAHCO had insisted then that the sacked workers were contract staff and assured that they would be re-absorbed back into the system by the management if they scaled the examination set before them.

U.S. Aerospace Industry generates 1.2 million jobs...nets $118.5 billion export sales

In 2012, the U.S. aerospace industry contributed $118.5 billion in export sales to the U.S. economy.  The industry’s positive trade balance of $70.5 billion is the largest trade surplus of any manufacturing industry and came from exporting 64.3 percent of all aerospace production. Foreign firms are attracted to the U.S. aerospace market because it is the largest in the world and has a skilled and hospitable workforce, extensive distribution systems, diverse offerings, and strong support at the local and national level for policy and promotion.  According to a recent study by the U.S. Department of Commerce, aerospace exports directly and indirectly support more jobs than the export of any other commodity.  The U.S. aerospace industry directly employs about 500,000 workers in scientific and technical jobs across the nation and supports more than 700,000 jobs in related fields.  Investment in the U.S. aerospace industry is facilitated by a large pool of...
