Abdulsalam: A profile of new NAMA 's helmsman

On Tuesday, March 4, 2014, President Goodluck Jonathan made sweeping changes in the aviation sector, which saw to the replacement of four CEOs of agencies under the ministry including Engr. Mazi Nnamdi Udoh of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA). Appointed as Udoh’s successor is Engr. Ibrahim Abdulsalam, an administrator and a technocrat with nearly two decades of experience with a bias in air traffic engineering, who was until his latest appointment the General Manager, Procurement, in the agency.
Abdulsalam began his early education in Kaduna State where he obtained his West African School Certificate from Government College, Kaduna. He proceeded to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria where he graduated in 1993 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. His quest for further education saw him in the United States of America where he graduated with a Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts, in 2007. He began his professional career with the then Federal Civil Aviation Authority (FCAA) in 1994 as a Pupil Engineer. Between that time and his latest appointment, Engr. Abdulsalam has worked in various departments and has held several management positions in the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, NAMA.
He has appreciable proficiency in Lab VIEW and Computer programming Languages, Microsoft, Linux, MACOS, Computer installation, maintenance/ technical support and Systems Administration services.
The new NAMA boss is equally versed in Communication network installation maintenance / technical support services as well as Air Navigation System proprietary application software for navigational support services. He also attended professional and technical training at Solar Airfield Lighting FAT in Melbourne Australia. His quest for further training in communications system took him to VSAT II Communications Systems Training at ATNS South Africa. He was in Accra, Ghana for Project Management course and also in Milan, Italy, Krontal Germany for Thales ATM SN420 series equipment FAT and Thales ATM SN420 series equipment training course respectively.
Engr Abdulsalam attended a World Bank sponsored programme on VSAT and Its application to Aviation Communications, in Ibadan the capital of Oyo State in Nigeria. As a technocrat and Administrator, he realised the need to improve his knowledge and expertise in Selex Sistemi Integrati CVOR/DME operation and Maintenance in Kansas, USA. Further trainings were done at Ping Telecomms Resource Ltd, Lagos on Linux application .At MASTECinc, Raleigh NC, USA, he enhanced his knowledge on Installation and Maintenance of Satellite Communications Systems, while he also had Computer Maintenance Course at Fayetteville Tech, Fayetteville NC, USA.
The new CEO of NAMA had his hands-on introduction to LabVIEW Graphical Development Environment, Real-Time and FPGA seminars, at National Instrument, Woburn, MA, Data Communication course on WAN, LAN, TCP/IP, etc. and Installation of Communications Equipment at Systems Communication Network (SCN), United Kingdom, Fibre Optic Installation at Systems Communication Network (SCN), United Kingdom, Micro-Informatics Installation, Maintenance and Repairs Course by UNESCO at Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, Thales ATM SN400 series Navaids equipment training course in Stuttgart, Germany,Basic Satellite Communications Course, Oshodi, Lagos, Maintenance Supervisors course, FAAN Training School, MMIA, Lagos,Fibre Optic Installation at Systems Communication Network (SCN), United Kingdom and Micro-Informatics Installation, Maintenance and Repairs Course by UNESCO at Yaba College of Technology, Lagos. He was at Stuttgart, Germany for Thales ATM SN400 series Navaids equipment training course andBasic Satellite Communications Course, Oshodi, Lagos.
As the Deputy General Manager (Procurement), February 2012 to August 2013, he was in charge of the procurement activities for the Agency in compliance with procurement Act 2007.From January 2011 to February 2012 he provided the technical and administrative supervision of Navaids Installations nationwide, assisting the General Manager Navaids where necessary. Earlier between Jan. 2010 and Dec. 2011 Engr Abdulsalam had served as Assistant General Manager, Central Electronics/Technical Workshop, Providing technical and administrative supervision of NAMA Headquarters’ Central Electronic /Technical Workshop, which served as the highest technical support Centre for all Safety Electronics and Engineering Services Directorate Equipment Maintenance for the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency. From August 2013 to date he has been overseeing the procurement activities for the Agency in compliance with procurement Act 2007.
Engr Abdulsalam is a Registered Engineer, Council for Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (R.11193) and a member of The National Scholars Honor Society (U.S.A.). He is also a member of Nigerian Society of Engineers (MNSE), Member National Association of Air traffic Engineers (MNAAE) and Member International Federation of Aviation Safety Electronics Association (MIFATSEA)

U.S. Aerospace Industry generates 1.2 million jobs...nets $118.5 billion export sales

  In 2012, the U.S. aerospace industry contributed $118.5 billion in export sales to the U.S. economy.  The industry’s positive trade balance of $70.5 billion is the largest trade surplus of any manufacturing industry and came from exporting 64.3 percent of all aerospace production. NAMA NEWS UPDATE

ARAP STEERING COMMITTEE SUBMITS REPORT ...AS CHIDOKA LAUDS NAMA FOR CREATION OF PMO _THE steering committee of the Aviation Revenue Automation Project (ARAP), inaugurated for the purpose of driving the full automation of all activities in the aviation agencies on Monday submitted its report to the Honourable Minister, Chief Osita Chidoka in Lagos. Among the recommendations of the committee was the need to drive commitment and enforcement to ensure strict compliance by all stakeholders while chief executives of all agencies should be held responsible to ensure that all revenue lines are captured under ARAP platform; also that all agencies should be encouraged to establish the Project Management Office (PMO) as is the case with NAMA.
