As part of its facility upgrade drive, the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA),has finally resolved  to install Category III A - Instrument Landing Systems (ILS) at Lagos and Abuja international airports.
ICAO and FAA  definition : ‘’A category III A approach, is a precision instrument approach and landing with no decision height lower than 100ft(30m) and  a runway  visual range not less than 700ft (200m)’’.
The managing director of the agency, Capt. Fola Akinkuotu, who disclosed this to the media, said the installation of these landing aids at the two international airports would enhance safety and ease flight operations during inclement weather.
The MD, had during an interview with ATQ explained the necessary logistics that would be required before installing such navaids, saying that there would be need for uninterrupted power supply, perimeter fencing on the signals propagated by these aids, onboard equipment and training of the pilot among other things.
Akinkuotu said the agency would maintain the drive in installing radio communication at strategic locations and continue the upgrade of existing ones, deployment of ILS and other navigational aids at the nation’s airports. At Kano airport, a new ILS and a Doppler Very High Frequency Omni directional Range (DVOR) were recently installed and released for use after the mandatory calibration.
The NAMA boss expressed concern over the delay in actualizing the transition of the agency’s Aeronautical Information Services (AIS) to Aeronautical Information Management (AIM), promising that the management would do everything possible to ensure its immediate completion.

Foreign firms are attracted to the U.S. aerospace market because it is the largest in the world and has a skilled and hospitable workforce, extensive distribution systems, diverse offerings, and strong support at the local and national level for policy and promotion.  According to a recent study by the U.S. Department of Commerce, aerospace exports directly and indirectly support more jobs than the export of any other commodity.  The U.S. aerospace industry directly employs about 500,000 workers in scientific and technical jobs across the nation and supports more than 700,000 jobs in related fields.  Investment in the U.S. aerospace industry is facilitated by a large pool of...
