Victorian Government joins BARS Program to assist in their aviation safety oversight

Flight Safety Foundation (FSF) has announced the continued expansion of its sectors of the BARS Program with the signing on Monday 15 February 2016 of the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) as a new Tier 1 BARS Member Organization.

FSF CEO Jon Beatty, BARS Managing Director David Anderson, and FSFL Chairman John Guselli met with DELWP Secretary Adam Fennessy, Emergency Management Victoria Commissioner Craig Lapsley, and DELWPs Chief Fire Officer Alan Goodwin, and Deputy Chief Fire Officer Darren Mackenzie for the signing of the BARS Member Organization (BMO) Agreement.

The signing of this Agreement establishes a collaborative working relationship between Victorian Government and the FSF.
The Victorian Government sees great value and advantage in using the BARS Program as a key part of its aviation safety oversight and risk management.

DELWP Secretary Adam Fennessy said, "This relationship gives us the opportunity to work with experts in this field to help us understand the most practical and safe way to use drones in our land and forest fire management. Having an ‘eye in the sky’ with video and thermal image ability will help us deliver more effective and safer planned burns - an important and innovative step for DELWP."
Dr Lisa Frye who manages the Aviation Services Unit, which allocates aviation assets across Victoria for use by the public sector, said "This is a great opportunity for DELWP to work with an international organisation in accessing and contributing to new risk standards for Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems."

BARS Managing Director David Anderson said the partnership with DELWP would be mutually beneficial for the aviation industry and sets a strong example for the BARS Program moving forward.

“We are proud to partner with the Victorian Government through DELWP in assisting with their management of risk. The BARS Program provides a system of oversight to identify, assess and manage aviation risks and as a not-for-profit organisation we see this relationship as mutually beneficial for industry.

“Through our involvement with the resource sector BARS Member Organizations we see the need to work on risk-based standards for UAV/RPA operations, which is another keen area of interest for the Victorian Government.”

In 2013, the Board of Edinburgh Airport committed to investing £150m in Sc...

U.S. Aerospace Industry generates 1.2 million jobs...nets $118.5 billion export sales

In 2012, the U.S. aerospace industry contributed $118.5 billion in export sales to the U.S. economy.  The industry’s positive trade balance of $70.5 billion is the largest trade surplus of any manufacturing industry and came from exporting 64.3 percent of all aerospace production. Foreign firms are attracted to the U.S. aerospace market because it is the largest in the world and has a skilled and hospitable workforce, extensive distribution systems, diverse offerings, and strong support at the local and national level for policy and promotion.  According to a recent study by the U.S. Department of Commerce, aerospace exports directly and indirectly support more jobs than the export of any other commodity.  The U.S. aerospace industry directly employs about 500,000 workers in scientific and technical jobs across the nation and supports more than 700,000 jobs in related fields.  Investment in the U.S. aerospace industry is facilitated by a large pool of...
