THURSDAY, the 5th of March, 2015 marked the first anniversary of the ascendancy of Engr. Ibrahim Abdulsalam as NAMA helmsman. This week we bring to you more views from those behind NAMA’s recent success story. The Director of Safety Electronics and Engineering Services, Engr. Emma Anasi says a lot has happened in NAMA within the past year in terms of deployment of infrastructure, like the Fibre Optic Link between the TRACON site and the MMIA terminal building which has enabled the agency to interface more telephone hotlines to the VCCS of TRACON. ‘’Also, Abdulsalam resuscitated the Kano Safe Tower which was stalled and as we speak now, the project is almost completed. We have also made progress in the replacement of the SATCOM systems in Kano and Lagos Gateways with more efficientand latest technology. The AIS Automation is moving as it never didbefore, and hopefully by the 3rd quarter of 2015, 11 stations will become operational. According to NAMA Company Secretary, Barr. Paul Oki, the recent gains of the agency are traceable to the clear commitment of the MD/CE to professionalism ‘’and this he did by raising standards in keeping with ICAO recommendations. He has also set the agency on the path to achieving ISO9001/27001 Certification apart from establishing a taskforce for actualizingVision 2015-2020 Impact Plan.’’

MANAGEMENT TO STREAMLINE EMERGENCY MEDICAL BILLS
IN a bid to streamline medical bills emanating from emergency treatment outside of Aviation Medical Clinics (which is the primary place of consultation for every NAMA staff), management has come up with guidelines to be strictly adhered to by all staff. A recent circular signed by the Director of Human Resources, Dr UwemAkangson has enjoined staff to be guided by the NAMA Condition of Service vis-a-vis medical service delivery which stipulates inter-alia that only expenses incurred in the course of referral by the Aviation Medical Clinic would be entertained by the agency, with the approval limit set by the clinic.

LATE HON. JUSTCE (CHIEF) JAP OKI BEGINS FINAL JOURNEY
THE body of the late legal luminaryHon. Justice (Chief) Josiah Ajasa Poutinkumo Oki, OON, Berebiboof Kabowei and retired Chief Judge of old Bendel State shall begin its final journey this weekend with a Valedictory Court Session at the High Court of Justice,Sapele Road, Benin City, Edo State on Friday, 13thMarch, 2015 by 10am. Thereafter, the body will proceed in a motorcade to Patani, Delta State for a Service of Songs between 4pm and 6pm same day at St. Mathew’s Anglican Church. Funeral Service comes up on Saturday, the 14th of March, 2015 at St. Mathew’s Anglican ChurchPatani by 10am while interment follows immediately after service. The late Justice (Chief) JAP Oki is survived by a wife, 6 children (includingBarr. Paul T. Oki, NAMA Company Secretary) and 14 grandchildren.

U.S. Aerospace Industry generates 1.2 million jobs...nets $118.5 billion export sales

  In 2012, the U.S. aerospace industry contributed $118.5 billion in export sales to the U.S. economy.  The industry’s positive trade balance of $70.5 billion is the largest trade surplus of any manufacturing industry and came from exporting 64.3 percent of all aerospace production. Foreign firms are attracted to the U.S. aerospace market because it is the largest in the world and has a skilled and hospitable workforce, extensive distribution systems, diverse offerings, and strong support at the local and national level for policy and promotion.  According to a recent study by the U.S. Department of Commerce, aerospace exports directly and indirectly support more jobs than the export of any other commodity.  The U.S. aerospace industry directly employs about 500,000 workers in scientific and technical jobs across the nation and supports more than 700,000 jobs in related fields.  Investment in the U.S. aerospace industry is facilitated by a large pool of...

ARAP STEERING COMMITTEE SUBMITS REPORT ...AS CHIDOKA LAUDS NAMA FOR CREATION OF PMO _THE steering committee of the Aviation Revenue Automation Project (ARAP), inaugurated for the purpose of driving the full automation of all activities in the aviation agencies on Monday submitted its report to the Honourable Minister, Chief Osita Chidoka in Lagos. Among the recommendations of the committee was the need to drive commitment and enforcement to ensure strict compliance by all stakeholders while chief executives of all agencies should be held responsible to ensure that all revenue lines are captured under ARAP platform; also that all agencies should be encouraged to establish the Project Management Office (PMO) as is the case with NAMA. Receiving the report, Chief Chidoka stated that “the power of automation especially in the dynamic world of aviation cannot be wished away as it would facilitate the one aviation vision and also set targets and measurable timelines”.
